Ponte da Piedade ocean conditions
To offer you a safe and fun ocean kayak cave trip in Lagos, we are sometimes forced to cancel your trip. You can be sure that we know very well how to read the Lagos weather conditions. With many years of kayaking and boating around the caves and grottoes of Ponte da Piedade, we have a vast experience about the effects of the wind, wave and tidal conditions around Lagos. Together with detailed information from professional websites and from local professionals on the water, we can estimate and predict the kayak conditions into detail. You can book here your Kayak Cave Trip.
Wind, wave and tidal conditions near Lagos
View here 3 different ocean conditions due to the Lagos weather:
1. waves coming and smashing against rock and into the caves; obviously a reason to cancel all trips for that day.
2. a calm ocean, but with a heavy fog rolling along the coast; a reason to stay close to the shore and have our support boat near-by.
3. perfect kayaking weather with a turquoise ocean and bright blue sky.
Windy afternoons & family kayak tours
The reason we suggest to families with (young) children to join us in the mornings on the Kayak Cave Trip, is that most days in the afternoons the wind picks up (after 15h00/16h00). Luckily this wind is normally a straight North wind, some-times even better, from North-West.
The map below shows the route of the kayak tour, and the prevailing wind direction in the afternoons. You can see that 80% of the tour is well hidden and in the lee side of the rock formations. Here you´ll have little effect of any strong winds.
We do have always a motorboat readily available and following every group to help you with a tow for the few windy parts.
